You don’t have to be a runner to be a part of the festivities on race day. Volunteer for one of the many Volunteer Job Opportunities necessary to make the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon a success. Individuals who register to volunteer will receive an event t-shirt along with free food and drinks at the Finish Line Festival.

Below are descriptions of some of the many opportunities to volunteer for the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon:
Organizing a marathon that is safe and fun takes a lot of assistance from not only the Kansas City Police Department but also volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help keep the roads clear of vehicles during the race while cheering on participants as they achieve their goals.
Course monitors are stationed at various intersections along the course to cheer on participants and assist with vehicle control. Many course monitors chose to volunteer at intersections in their neighborhoods.
In addition to helping keep the race safe and positive, course monitors who fulfill their shift, will automatically be entered to win travel vouchers from our partners at Southwest Airlines. Thank you to our travel partner Southwest Airlines, for providing this great perk!
NOTE: Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
Packet pickup and late registration will take place on Thursday, October 15 from 3-8 p.m. and Friday, October 16 from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to assist with packet distribution, gear check bag and shirt distribution for all participants. Assistance is also needed with late registration.
Gear check is located in the Finish Line Festival presented by BNY Mellon area. Participants have the option to check their clothing and other personal items prior to the race at a secure location and then pick them up at the conclusion of their race.
Volunteers are needed to help set up gear check along with checking in and out participants’ gear check bags.
Last year, the Kansas City Marathon was awarded Gold Level Certification from the Council For Responsible Sport. Help us continue our green efforts by joining the green team.
Volunteers will assist in the promotion of all the green initiatives to all participants and spectators by being stationed at various green locations throughout the finish line area.
Volunteers assist with sorting and distributing food and water to race participants, helping to ensure only participants receive food and water. Help congratulate all the finishers on a job well done!
Volunteers assist with backup finish timing and printing of results for participants. No prior experience is necessary. Come celebrate with all the finishers!
Volunteers will help to hang up and hand out Mylar blankets to participants as they cross the finish line. These special race blankets help to ensure a proper temperature for runners post-race.
Volunteers will assist the Kansas City Marathon official food vendor with set up, distribution and managing post-race food for all race participants.
Volunteers help by cleaning up the finish line area, both chute and festival, of any recyclables, compostables, clothing and other items at the conclusion of the race festivities.
Be a volunteer by helping other volunteers. Assist welcoming and checking in fellow volunteers race morning and directing them to their specified volunteer location along with giving them their volunteer t-shirt! No prior information needed.
Descriptions for volunteer positions can be found on the Kids Marathon page.
