Each relay team consists of three to five members who will collectively run the 26.2 mile marathon distance. Teams are allowed to have less than 5 members but are required to have at least 3 members on their team. Should a team have less than 5 members, individuals will just be required to complete multiple legs of the relay.
There are three categories for competing as a team:
Male – all 5 male members
Female – all 5 female members
Coed – at least 2 male and 2 female
Through February 1 – $190
Through April 26 – $200
Through June 28 - $210
Through August 30 - $230
Through October 11 – $250

Due to the course update, the team relay exchange points and distances have also been affected. Below are the exchange points and distances for the 2014 Team Relay.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as the staff and committee of the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds work in collaboration with the City of Kansas City to ensure participant safety and a runner friendly environment. Due to major improvement projects in the city, including the street car development, the course has been adjusted.

Only after the Team Captain has registered and created a team online can the other team members complete their registrations. NOTE: Each member is required to complete their own registration form!

The team relay exchange points and distances have changed! Due to the location of the exchange points, the use of the buses is not critical. It is convenient and easy for relay teams to use their own transportation to meet at each exchange point as they can be accessed from the outside of the course and they are located near or around parking lots.
However, buses will be provided again in 2014. There is no need to arrange for, schedule or reserve transportation on the buses. The marathon organizers provide transportation to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th exchange points. Buses will leave at 6:30 A.M. on race day. There will be no late departure buses. NOTE: Transportation is not provided from one exchange point to the next. Buses will be parked on Main Street west of the Westin Crown Center Hotel. They will be marked for each of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th exchange points. All buses will leave the start area at 6:30 A.M.
Leg distances are currently being evaluated to ensure an enjoyable and fun race for everyone! Check back soon to see the new exchange points and distances for 2014!
The relay shuttles are optional.

It is encouraged for you to meet up with the final runner on your team about 2 to 3 blocks from the finish line so you are all able to cross the finish line together. DO NOT cross the finish line until all team participants are present, including your final runner.
Relay members who are not running the final leg and do not wish to cross the finish line will be instructed to enter the food line from the EXIT. In other words, go around the finish line to the end of the chute. This ONLY applies for team participants who do not wish to cross the finish line with their team.
