Registration for 2015 will open soon!

The 2015 Kids Marathon presented by Chick-fil-A in partnership with Children’s Mercy returns, giving young runners, Kindergarten through 8th grade, a chance to complete their own mini-marathon on the day of the Kansas City Marathon. Proceeds from the 2015 Kids Marathon presented by Chick-fil-A benefit Children’s Mercy.

Young runners will have all summer to train for their own mini-marathon! As part of the fun run experience, participating kids, kindergarten through 8th grade, are encouraged to “train” by tracking 25 miles on their own leading up to race day. The final 1.2 miles, which starts just north of Crown Center, will be completed on race day, October 17, 2015 at 9:30 a.m.

Kid’s Activities start at 9:00 A.M. on race day, including a mascot race, group stretching and entertainment. Also, make sure to stick around after the race for the Kids Zone full of fun activities and entertainment for the entire family to enjoy until 11 A.M.

Kids ages 5-15 are able to sign up in groups of 10 or more through their school/youth sports group or can sign up as individuals with a responsible adult accompanying them!

Any parent, guardian or additional team coach that would like to participate (be on the race course) in the Kids Marathon ONLY, i.e. not already participating in the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon events/races, MUST sign a waiver of liability. This is to ensure a safe and secure race for all participants.

Adult Participation Options

In the best interest for all participant’s safety, as well as adult coaches and parents, the Kids Marathon are asking that all those planning to be on a race course sign the event waiver. NOTE: If you are a parent or guardian who is participating in another of the race day events (i.e. 5k, half marathon, full marathon or team relay) and you have already signed a waiver, there is no need to complete another.

There are three options to sign the event waiver for adult coaches or parents:

  1. Just the waiver: Sign up online. There will be a $5 online processing fee. This ensures that your name will be included within the participant database. You will be given a wristband at packet pickup indicating you’ve signed a waiver and can be on the race course on October 17.
  2. Waiver + T-shirt: Sign up online and pay a $15 fee which includes an adult Kids Marathon event  t-shirt.
  3. It is up to the team coach to ensure only parents with signed waivers have a wristband. The paper waiver is available upon email request to  kidsmarathon@kcmarathon.org.
