The Kids Marathon in partnership with Children’s Mercy Hospitals & Clinics returns, giving young runners, Kindergarten through 8th grade, a chance to complete their own mini-marathon on the day of the Kansas City Marathon. Proceeds from the Kids Marathon benefit Children’s Mercy.
Young runners will have all summer to train for their own mini-marathon! As part of the fun run experience, participating kids, kindergarten through 8th grade, are encouraged to “train” by tracking 25 miles on their own leading up to race day. The final 1.2 miles, which starts just north of Crown Center, will be completed on race day, October 18, 2014 at 9:30 A.M. ** NEW START TIME THIS YEAR**
Kid’s Activities start at 8:30 A.M. on race day, including a mascot race, group stretching and entertainment. Also, make sure to stick around after the race for the Kids Zone full of fun activities and entertainment for the entire family to enjoy until 11 A.M.
Kids ages 5-15 are able to sign up in groups of 10 or more through their school/youth sports group or can sign up as individuals with a responsible adult accompanying them!

NOTE: The group registration process has changed! Please follow the steps outlined in Team/Group Registration section in order to register your team online.
** Only after the Team Coach has registered and created a team online can the other team members (group members) complete their online registrations.
The creator of the team is automatically assigned as the Team Coach. NOTE: The Team Coach must be the ONLY person on this initial registration. Do NOT attempt to register the entire team on the Team Coach’s registration.

HOW TO MAKE A TEAM (coaches)
The team coach is in charge of registering the team and paying the team fee.
NOTE: Please register your team in plenty of time to receive this code and distribute to your team members so they may register accordingly. Deadline to register a NEW team is September 28.
HOW TO JOIN A TEAM (team members)
Once a team has been created by the Team Coach, the other team members may join the team using the “promotion code” to register at no cost. Here are 5 easy steps to help you through the process.
NOTE: Group registration ends on Sunday, October 12, at 11:59 P.M. No additions will be able to be made to groups after that time. Participants will still be able to sign up for the race as individuals at the race expo for $20.
This year there will be a scaling price depending on the amount of participants you anticipate to participate to be in your group. The team coach must pay the full amount when signing up the team.
NOTE: The fees will not include the processing fee.
The Kids Marathon is structured to allow participants the opportunity to complete a full, 26.2-mile marathon one mile at a time – a pace that is fun and safe for their growing bodies! As part of the fun run experience, participating kids are encouraged to “train” by tracking 25 miles on their own leading up to race day.

Kids Marathon Booth: Please come to the Kids Marathon packet pick-up booth, this is separate from other race booths. Turn in your training log at packet pickup to receive your “certificate of completion” which will be printed on site.

Come out early and cheer on your favorite high school and professional mascot. Every year to kick off our Kids’ Marathon race, we invite mascots from around the area for their own fun race as well as have them lead us in a warm-up! Pre- race activities start at 8:30 A.M. To make the Kids Marathon in partnership with Children’s Mercy Hospitals & Clinics a success, many volunteers are needed. Groups are encouraged to volunteer together for the event.
Please follow these steps to become a Kids Marathon Volunteer:
Remember there are positions available starting on Wednesday, October 15 through Saturday, October 18.
Race Packet Assembly: Volunteer will put together goodie bags and other race information together for packet pickup.
Expo Volunteer: Monitor, distribute, and explain race information as families and team coaches come to check in.
Race set-up: Volunteers will assist in moving tables, chairs, fencing and other items needed to set-up for Kids Zone area prior to pre-race activities.
